Windows 10 has a huge problem and there’s not long for Microsoft to fix it

Millions of Windows 10 fans will be getting a major update to their PCs next month with Microsoft pushing out its new May upgrade.

This latest operating system will feature a swathe of changes including modifications to the Start Menu, improved Cortana and something called Sandbox.

Sandbox is a piece of software that is designed to run suspicious applications in an isolated environment.

This means if programmes contain malware, they will not harm your PC if they are used in Sandbox first.

There’s no official release just yet but a final test version has been made available which means there shouldn’t be too long to wait.

That’s the good news but Microsoft is warning that its May updated could arrive with a problem for some users.

It seems a bug in the software is meaning some customer may struggle to install this upgrade with a message appearing on the screen that says “This PC can’t be upgraded to Windows 10”.

According to Microsoft, this issue appears when a computer is using an external USB device or SD memory card.

In a post on its support website, the US firm said: “Inappropriate drive reassignment can occur on Windows 10-based computers that have an external USB device or SD memory card attached during the installation of the May 2019 update.

“For this reason, these computers are currently blocked from receiving the May 2019 Update. This generates the error message that is mentioned in the “Symptoms” section if the upgrade is tried again on an affected computer.”

Microsoft is working on a fix but it looks unlikely to be ready in time for the release of the May update.

For now they have issues a workaround with Windows fans urged to remove the external media and restart the May 2019 Update installation.

The news of this issue comes as Windows users received a boost to their Chrome browsers this week.

The populate web tool has just received an update which now allows it to switch to Dark Mode on the Microsoft platform.

To turn this Windows 10 mode on, users can simply head to the Colours option in the Settings menu.

From this panel, you can then change the default app mode from light to dark with all applications that are compatible with this mode then getting the new look.

The idea behind Dark Mode is that it makes looking that the screen a lot less aggressive on your eyes and is especially useful at night.

It’s worth noting that before you can try this new Chrome design you’ll need to make sure your Google browser is fully up to date with version 74 installed.
