Fans believe they may have spotted evidence that Rockstar Games are now moving ahead with the further development of GTA 6.

It’s almost a certainty that a follow-up to the hugely successful Grand Theft Auto 5 will be developed and released in the future.

But this new project sounds like it will be available on the PlayStation 5, not the current PS4 and Xbox One.

And a recent recruitment drive at various Rockstar studios suggests that something big is in the works.

New jobs listings from the studio revealed that Rockstar is currently hiring people for a big next-generation project.

Rockstar India is looking for a Senior Environment Artist who will help build “next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects”.

The listing reads: “Join our team to create next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects! Strong modelling and texturing skills are not enough. Candidates must be able to create immersive, living, and fully-realised environments.

As a Senior Environment Artist working at Rockstar India, you will be responsible for creating exciting and believable artwork, creating and texturing environment assets for the biggest and best open world environments in the industry.”

This would suggest something for the Next Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation 5, both of which are expected to be announced in 2019.

Rockstar Games in New York are looking for a MoCap Tools Developer who will be part of the team helping to create and build upon the next generation of MoCap tools and pipeline.

“You will be working with a talented core team of passionate and committed individuals to work on some of the largest scale projects to be found in any entertainment medium,” the Rockstar listing explains.

“You will have the opportunity to build and develop new tools and pipelines used across all our studios in a friendly and inclusive environment where you can collaborate with some of the most accomplished and driven people in the industry.”

These listings suggest that Rockstar is now recruiting for their next big project, which could be GTA 6.

A new Grand Theft Auto game is expected to be announced in the future and will almost certainly be on PS5 and the next Xbox.

Rockstar has probably been working on their next game for a while now but have been dedicating most of their resources on Red Dead 2.

But with the completion of that project, there’s a chance that Rockstar will start committing more resources to GTA 6.

This is good news for fans of the franchise but doesn’t mean we will hear anything about it soon.

The GTA 6 release date could be years away, especially when you consider the ever-widening launch times between instalments.

It will all depend on how much works has been done since the release of GTA 5 and how much the popular GTA Online mode has affected it.

There’s no doubt that GTA 6 Online will be a massive cash cow for Rockstar and will no doubt be a priority for release.

But until we hear more solid details on Rockstar’s next plans, these will be the only kind of hints we will have to go on.

Recent rumours suggest that Rockstar is planning to launch Bully 2 next, followed by whatever big next-gen project they have.

Games industry analyst Michael Pachter has predicted a new games announcement being made by Rockstar Games in the next year.

This new title would launch in 2020 and would be announced in the coming months.

“I think we’ll hear about a new BioShock game and a new title from Rockstar, both for 2020, Pachter told Games Industry.biz.

“It would be cheating to say that the company will announce Borderlands since it will probably happen before this article is published.”

There have also been reports that Rockstar Games plans to launch a version of Red Dead Redemption 2 on next-gen consoles and PC.
