We’ve been harvesting, photographing and writing about hundreds of dahlias this week for my upcoming book all about dahlias. What a fun project! While all of the varieties were beautiful, a few really stole my heart like this little gem called ‘Creamy.’
The flowers are the color of buttermilk and have the sweetest country-like charm. Because this week was all about dahlia armloads I thought I’d focus my #AYearInFlowers post around that.
The goal of the #AYearInFlowers project is to highlight and celebrate what’s blooming in gardens across the globe each week.
How to participate in #AYearInFlowers

Windowsill Wednesday. That unnamed, untamed time of second summer, when there’s a hint, just a touch in the air of a coolness to come. Berries on the hawthorn tree begin to blush and the hazelnuts, plumping nicely in their green felt suits, dropping one-two, kerplunk-kerplunk to the ground. In the garden, a returned softness with the second flush of roses, and the beds half bud, half seed-head in bleached out skeletons and vivid green shoots; let the final act begin. . Vase by @robinwaldenceramics. . Ammi Majus ‘Graceland’. Cosmos ‘Purity’. Roses ‘Desdemona’, ‘Felicia’, ‘White Cecile Brunner’. Flowering Mint. Alchemilla Mollis. Bells or Ireland. Yarrow. Phlox ‘Whipped Cream’. Amaranthus ‘Green Tails’. Linaria seedheads. Ravenswing. Larkspur ‘Giant White’. Jasmine ‘Clotted Cream’. . West Sussex, England. #ayearinflowers #week32flowers

A note about week numbers: week numbers are commonly used in the floriculture industry and are standardized across the years. This is the 32nd week of the year.
By using the #week32flowers hashtag on Instagram, you can sort photos by what’s in bloom this week all around the world. In addition, week numbers allow you to compare what’s blooming in your own garden from year to year.
Next week, I’ll be posting my week 33 flowers to social media and also here on the blog along with a selection of other participants’ photos. If you’re participating on Instagram, please add the #week33flowers and #AYearInFlowers hashtags to your caption. Be sure to also include your zone and where you’re located in the caption.
Thanks for playing along!
